About Us

The Institute for Energy & the Environment (IEE) at New Mexico State University is a multidisciplinary organization that coordinates research, education, and industry to develop comprehensive solutions for environmental, energy, and water challenges in the southwestern United States and worldwide. 

IEE’s major objectives include:

  • developing, promoting, transferring, and commercializing renewable energy technologies;
  • advancing education, training, outreach, and research in the fields of environment, energy, water, and food security; and
  • researching advanced electrical power delivery, public policy, materials sciences, alternative resources, and environmental security to meet increasing global energy needs.

IEE also encompasses WERC, a consortium of New Mexican educational and research organizations. Through collaborative partnerships, WERC focuses on environmental education and technology development.
