Registration is now open

WERC’s International Environmental Design Contest (IEDC) is a unique event that brings together academic, industrial, and governmental agencies in the search for improved environmental solutions. The 22nd annual IEDC will be held on April 1-4, 2012 in Las Cruces at New Mexico State University’s Main Campus, and has drawn hundreds of college students throughout the United States and around the world to participate in its innovative challenges centered on sustainability and the environment.

The IEDC presents 6 unique tasks looking for improved environmental solutions to everyday problems. The 2012 tasks are:

Student teams choose which task they would like to undertake and as part of the contest each team must present: (1) written paper, (2) oral presentation, (3) poster presentation, and (4) bench-scale model that address. Outstanding student teams win cash awards, and some projects have even been deployed at various sites in the U.S.

If you have an interest in sustainability, the environment, or are just up for the challenge take the time to sign up for this unique and exciting contest.

ABET Accreditation

The IEDC provides professional evaluation of the strengths and areas for improvement, feedback and assessment after the contest addressing the ABET feedback requirement. Previous teams have also successfully submitted their papers and posters from the contest to various conferences and journals for publication.
After the contest WERC provides the judges’ feedback to the participants. Feedback to the students has become an important part of ABET accreditation.
